about ictal project
I'm Gus Cummins, an artist who has had epilepsy since 1991. The 'Ictal Project' is an attempt to address epilepsy and its associated stigma, through art.
From 21st Nov - 21st Dec 2008 I showed an exhibiton called 'Ictal' at Exeter Phoenix. This centred around a digital media projection called 'Invaders'.
Driven by EEG data recorded during my siezure activity. 'Invaders' was commissioned for the Exeter Phoenix Media Digital Bursary 2008, and is an audiovisual projection. The exhibition also included material from all preceding Ictal exhibitions.
I finished showing 'ictal 2008' as part of DaDaFest International at the A Foundation in Liverpool on 7th Sept 2008. Also there was work by Alison Jones, Ju Gosling, Wolfgang Temmel and Tanya Raabe. I had a great but exhausting time, and would like to say a big thank you to Ruth Gould, Ali Jones and all at NWDAF for making it happen.
Phase 1 of the Ictal project was an exhibition of prints which showed at the NeuroSupport Centre, Liverpool, with the kind support of Danny Start, and at the Royal United Hospital in Bath earlier this year.
Please email your comments and thoughts on the Ictal Project to me. Thanks.
Gus Cummins
